Welcome to North Foreland Golf Club

When it comes to playing golf, you want a stunning destination that offers challenge, reward and the opportunity to escape. Welcome to North Foreland Golf Club – one of the most popular seaside golf courses in the country. Situated on the picturesque Kent coast, North Foreland offers two exceptional all-year-round golf courses, with professional clubhouse facilities to match.

In the hundred years since it was founded, the Club has successfully adapted to the times and now addresses the needs of the 21st century golfer. At North Foreland we treat every visitor who comes to experience our first-class golf and professional hospitality as a future member of our Club.

Whether you want to become a member, or request the availability of tee times, call us on (01843) 862140, or fill out our enquiry form. We look forward to meeting you.

The Main Course

The Main course comprises of four par 3, three par 5 and eleven par 4 holes. While the broad fairways instil a sense of relaxation and tee-shot confidence, don’t be fooled as strategically placed bunkers lie in wait. That all-important second shot needs careful thought, as making and holding the greens is deceptively tricky.

The 3 short par 3s look innocuous enough, but fire off line and recovery is far from easy. The eighteenth hole, which is the longest par 3 is a fine test as it requires both length and accuracy. The par 5 holes are fair and straightforward until you encounter the wind which is a major feature of our coastal course.

On average most of the par 4 holes can be reached in two, but the 8th, 9th and 17th both offer a considerable challenge and one feels successful with a bogey on each.

The Northcliffe Course

The Northcliffe course provides the opportunity for members to have excellent golf and hone their short game on holes that vary in distance from 50 to 140 yards. It could be assumed that a course with par-three holes can easily be tackled, but over the years, the Northcliffe course has lulled many players into a false sense of security.

Members & Visitors

As part of the Club’s lease with Thanet Council, the Northcliffe course also welcomes visiting players to ‘pay and play’. As confidence is gained many learn to love golf and also learn to cope with its occasional frustrations – some even taking part in competitions. Not surprisingly, many go on to become members of North Foreland Golf Club.

Chessington, UK 15 February – Callaway Golf today announced the retail launch availability of the new RAZR X Black™ platform of premium golf equipment. Representing the company’s latest technology offerings, the RAZR X Black Driver, RAZR X Black Fairway Woods and the RAZR X Black Irons deliver unmatched ball speed, distance and accuracy through advanced designs that make the game more enjoyable.

Designed with a sleek, black PVD finish, the RAZR X Black Driver features a clean and traditional look at address, yet delivers the latest from Callaway’s technologically advanced Research and Development team at impact. The driver’s crown is made of Forged Composite, a highly advanced carbon composite material that was developed in partnership with luxury Italian automaker Automobili Lamborghini. It is the lightest, strongest, most precise material either company has ever employed. Forged Composite allows Callaway engineers to precisely design a clubhead that produces optimal launch and spin characteristics for greater distance. The RAZR X Black Driver introduces the Company’s proprietary SpeedFrame™ Face Technology, which melds Callaway’s VFT® and Hyperbolic Face™ advancements to create a larger sweet spot and increased ball speeds across the titanium face. Streamlined Surface Technology reduces energy loss from head drag during the downswing by 23 percent compared to RAZR X Black’s predecessor, the Diablo Octane Driver, leading to higher impact speeds and additional distance off the tee.

“The RAZR X Black Driver represents the best of what we’ve learned about making drivers—along with several completely new areas of improvement—all combined into one very fast-looking clubhead,” said Luke Williams, Senior Director, Global Woods and Irons, Callaway Golf. “We’ve utilized our patented Forged Composite construction in combination with advances in aerodynamics and face technology to create a driver that delivers amazing ball speed in a design that suits a huge cross-section of golfers.” The RAZR X Black Fairway Woods continue the Company’s rich heritage of bold designs in the category. Designed for golfers looking for a healthy dose of attitude in their fairway woods, they feature dark, stealthy graphics and will be available in 3-, 4-, 5-, 7- and 9-woods. The stainless steel constructed RAZR X Fairway Woods deliver a pleasing, resonating sound at impact, and come in a traditional shape for a confidence-inspiring look at address. Callaway’s patented aggressive VFT® technology allows for precision shaping of the face thickness in each club to increase the size of the sweet spot.

“With a more conventional head shape and a hosel, the RAZR X Black Fairway Woods have been engineered to appeal to a broad range of golfers,” said Williams. “Our goal all along was to deliver distance and versatility, and this is a forgiving design that allows golfers to swing hard. It’s available in a variety of loft offerings and has a shallow face, which makes it easy to hit from a variety of lies that golfers encountered on the course.”

In 2011, Callaway introduced the wildly successful RAZR X Iron platform with three distinct models, each catering to a different player type. In 2012, the RAZR X line expands to include the new RAZR X Black Iron, an advanced game-improvement club designed for precise accuracy and distance from any spot on the golf course. Using RAZR Technology, Callaway engineers shifted the centre of gravity lower than it is in any other Callaway stainless steel iron, and delivered the playability of a wide-sole iron while retaining the look and workability of a thin sole iron. With a black PVD finish for reduced glare, the RAZR X Iron doesn’t just look fast, it is. It’s VFT® Power System offers a fully integrated clubface/undercut cavity system that enables Callaway designers to precisely position the centre of gravity and engineer the face of each individual iron to maximize ball speed.

Scotland’s national stroke play championship and one of Europe’s leading amateur events will be decided over the challenging ‘Barassie Links’ between 1 and 3 June. In preparation for the Carrick Neill Scottish Amateur Open Stroke Play Championship, and other prestigious tournaments soon to be held over the Links, a number of enhancements have been made to the much-acclaimed Ayrshire course.

The changes which included constructing 10 new fairway bunkers and significant course drainage improvements were initiated afterKilmarnock(Barassie) Golf Club hosted The Boys Amateur Championship in 2010. The programme of work which was successfully undertaken by the club’s greenkeeping staff has further enhanced Barassie’s reputation for providing a traditional but testing links experience.

“The work carried out on the golf course has created a fantastic playing surface for lovers of links golf,” explained Alan Hill, captain of Barassie. “With less water being retained by the fairways, the turf is firmer. That’s what everyone enjoys about links courses, like Barassie, but it also provides a stern test for the top players.”

The on-course preparations have also received praise from the sanctioning body behind the Scottish Stroke Play Championship. “We are really looking forward to staging one of our flagship events atKilmarnock(Barassie) and the recent changes have enhanced what was already a fantastic course,” said Hamish Grey, chief executive at the SGU. “The Championship has attracted a really strong field this year with a handicap ballot as low as +1.8, with a real international flavour, including some of the world’s best amateurs from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA and France.” he added.

Located on the outskirts of Troon, Barassie has a 125-year history of welcoming high-profile tournaments. Indeed, as an Open Championship qualifier venue and host to the British Boys Championship, the acclaimed links has witnessed numerous nail-biting finishes. But with past winners of the Amateur Stroke Play Championship including Colin Montgomerie, Stephen Gallacher, Dean Robertson and Richie Ramsay, the club’s marketing convener said hostingScotland’s national stroke play championship would be a highpoint in the club’s centenary year.

“You just have to look at the past winners to see how important the tournament is,” Brian Wallace noted. “With this in mind, we were eager to create a true test of links golf on one of the most treasured layouts on the Ayrshire coast. It is especially poignant that such an important event should be taking place during our 125-year celebrations. It is certainly going to be an exciting and very busy year at Barassie.”

Established in 1887, the club is celebrating its 125th year with a series of special events that will culminate in a celebratory dinner in September compared by BBC sports commentator Andrew Cotter and featuring professional golfer Ronan Rafferty.

Chris joined Kingswood School at the age of 11. He was already a keen young golfer and had starting playing at the age of five. The Headmaster and the Director of Sport were very keen to ensure that his obvious potential was supported and the school made sure that in addition to his academic studies, he was able to fit in all the additional coaching he needed in order to take his talents and skills to the next level. By the time he reached the Sixth Form, Chris had received a Specialist Sport Award in recognition of his rare talent and was also presented with his ‘Colours’ Blazer, an honour generally reserved for those competing in team sports.
Since leaving Kingswood Chris has gone from strength to strength and at the age of 20 is already in his second year as a golf professional. Last year he finished 28th in the European Challenge Tour rankings with his best result being placed 2nd in the Mugello Tuscany Open. He is now in his second year of the Challenge Tour and so far has made a terrific start, finishing 8th in India, 2nd in Columbia and 14th in Kenya. During his visit to Kenya he was also invited to become an ambassador for the Glad’s House Charity – a charity who support ‘street children’ through sport and education. http://www.gladshouse.com – something very much supported by Kingswood who have many strong links with schools in Kenya.
All at Kingswood continue to watch and to be proud of Chris’s achievements although we are sure this is only just the beginning for this talented young sportsman.

The match, played at Blackmoor Golf Club on Saturday 5thMay, saw the Hampshire Pros emerge victorious by just a single point after five foursomes and ten singles matches. Points to capture maiden PGA Tour title at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Titleist golf ball loyalist Rickie Fowler earned his first career PGA Tour win in an all-Pro V1x sudden death playoff at the Wells Fargo Championship this weekend. Fowler, Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy and Titleist golf ball loyalist D.A. Points all posted a 14-under 274 total before Fowler delivered a winning birdie on the first extra hole. Finishing one shot outside of the play-off was Titleist Brand Ambassador Webb Simpson (Pro V1x) who was followed by a plethora of Titleist golf ball loyalists as each of the top eight finishers put their trust in the #1 ball in golf.

Fowler fired a final round 3-under par 69 en route to winning his second title as a professional, while McIlroy and Points closed with 70 and 71, respectively, to reach the playoff. It was Fowler’s birdie at the first extra hole that eventually saw him emerge victorious, denying McIlroy the defence of the title he captured with a scintillating final round 62 twelve months ago. Despite finishing runner up at the Wells Fargo Championship, Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy reclaims his position as the top ranked golfer in the world, replacing fellow Pro V1x loyalist Luke Donald at the summit of the Official World Golf Rankings.Following Fowler, McIlroy, Points and Simpson with top finishes in North Carolina, were three players who tied for 5th including Titleist golf ball loyalist Lee Westwood (Pro V1x) and Titleist Brand Ambassador Ben Curtis (Pro V1x) who has followed his win at last month’s Valero Texas Open with a T13 finish at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and T5 at Quail Hollow. Titleist Brand Ambassador Nick Watney (Pro V1x) completed Titleist’s strong showing at the top of the leaderboard, rounding out the all-Titleist top-eight.

With Fowler’s victory, Titleist players have now accumulated 14 golf ball wins on the 2012 PGA Tour compared to 2 for the nearest competitor, and from tee-to-green, Titleist is also the top choice of more PGA Tour winners in every major club equipment category; drivers (6), fairway metals (7), hybrids (4), irons (7), wedges (9) and putters (7).

Elsewhere, on the South African Tour Titleist Brand Ambassador Christiaan Basson (Pro V1x) trusted the feel and playability of Titleist equipment from tee-to-green to capture the Investec Royal Swazi Sun Open. Playing under a modified stableford system, Basson edged fellow Pro V1x loyalists Danie van Tonder and Desvonde Botes by one point. These victories bring Titleist’s 2012 worldwide golf ball win count to 54, compared to 7 for the nearest competitor.

A maiden PGA Tour victory for Titleist golf ball loyalist Rickie Fowler, ahead of an all-Titleist golf ball top-8, coupled with a victory on the South African Tour, continues to prove that the world’s best players opt for the performance excellence of Titleist for their success.

The 57-year old will also team up a lightweight CaddyCell lithium battery with his bright orange Revolution – a fitting colour choice given his close affinity to football inHolland, where he was childhood friends with Johan Cruyff when his late father managedAjax.

Spurgeon spent part of his formative years in the Dutch capitalAmsterdam, where his dad Keith was boss atAjaxfrom 1961-62. Among the young trainees to visit the Spurgeon family home for regular lunches was Johan Cruyff, who went on to be Ajax’s most famous product and perhaps Holland’s greatest ever player.

After finishing 36th last year, Spurgeon is hoping the superb reliability of the all-British Golfstream Revolution together with the incredible lightness and power of the CaddyCell battery will keep him in good stead when the European Seniors Tour starts in Mallorca on May 11.

Announcing the sponsorship, Golfstream MD Derek Richford, said: “We’re delighted to help out Kevin. Given his close affinity toHolland, a Revolution in our ‘house orange’ colors is entirely appropriate – it ought to go down very well at the Van Lanschot Senior Open in theNetherlandsin June!”

A professional golfer since 1974, Spurgeon competed in the PGA Championship at Wentworth Club on six occasions between 1985 and 2001, while another highlight of his career was finishing joint 14th in The 2001 Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open on The European Tour.

He impressed at last year’s Senior Open Championship, carding a second round 66 en route to finishing tied 16th at Walton Heath and captured his maiden title at the start of his sixth season on the Senior Tour with victory in the first event of 2010, the inaugural Mauritius Commercial Bank Open, finishing one stroke clear of former Ryder Cup player Gordon J Brand.

Having successfully made the transition from Club Professional to European Senior Tour regular, he was named Rookie of the Year in his first season in 2005.

Golfstream is the leading name in trolley spare and accessories and excels when it comes to producing reliable, 100% British built powered golf trolleys.

The British-made, hand-built Golfstream Revolution with its unique ‘one-click’ folding mechanism is a best-seller throughout Europe, while Golfstream also carries in stock a huge range of wheels, batteries, chargers, golf bags, spares and accessories for most popular trolley brands – which the company dispatches all over Europe.

CaddyCell is a superlight new Lithium-Ion battery which is more than 75% lighter than a standard lead acid battery. The CaddyCell Lithium weighs just 2.1 kilos and can be lifted with a single finger.

Mick Green and his team lost only one match which was the away match at Hamptworth. Mick said “it has been a great team effort this year with everyone contributing throughout. Well done to all those who have helped me make it a winning team, that’s Hugh Crossan, Geoff Laney, Dave Lewis, Alf Norman-Thorpe, Derek Perkins, Guy Piercy, Rod Trimboy and Brian Wood.” Marlborough have also succeeded in taking the inaugural Seniors Inter Club Winter Trophy for players of sixty years or over with a handicap between 0-18.

This is a competition devised by Graham Jefferies, a past seniors captain at Marlborough Golf Club. Graham commented “during my captains year I quickly realised there was a strong competitive spirit amongst a great number of seniors, and some of them were going to be hardy enough to put their golf games on the line during the winter months, so I got busy with the e mails. I was lucky enough to find support from Cumberwell Park, Ogbourne Downs. Donnington Grove, Salisbury South Wilts, Sandford Springs and of course Marlborough. As it turned out, and to cut a long story short, the final was to be contested between Marlborough and Ogbourne Downs over 36 holes, 18 at Marlborough and 18 at Ogbourne. The outcome of that was Marlborough 7 Ogbourne Downs 1 so Marlborough succeeded with an overwhelming victory.” Our photo shows Marlborough seniors captain John Sprules (right) receiving the trophy from Marlborough club president Malcolm Hardstaff. Following this John thanked his winter squad of Barrie Reardon Smith, Grant Talman, Mike Courtney, Graham Daws, Dave Ferris, Gordon Buckett, Phil Smith, Hugh Crossan, Brian Wood and Graham

Jefferies; he was clearly delighted at being a part of this winning double and added “we play 38 matches throughout the summer, and then it goes a bit flat, so this has prolonged our competitive spirit a little longer, we look forward to next year.”
